Danny Elkins Stanley

Memorial services for Danny Elkins Stanley, 65, will be held on
Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at 4:00 P.M., at Skidaway Island
Presbyterian Church. Visitation will precede the service at
2:00 P.M. in the Fellowship Hall. Reverends, John Wall and Jim Rush, will officiate.


Mr. Stanley passed away at his residence on Sunday, September 18,
20ll. Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Elkins and
Nettie Stanley. He is survived by his wife of 42 years,
Allison Powel Stanley; his two children, Nick and Heather Stanley
and Shae and Ben Jones, both of Savannah; his four grandsons,
Max and Nicholas Stanley, and Benjamin and Curry Jones; and
one sister, Lovona Stanley of Savannah, and his extended family the "Working Man's" group.

Mr. Stanley was born June 21, 1946 in Dublin, Georgia, where he
graduated from Dublin High School in l965. Mr. Stanley was
recognized for his contributions in the 1963 All-State Football
Championship. Dublin Irish fans will remember, Danny caught the pass to score the very first touchdown in the new Shamrock Bowl.

Mr. Stanley earned his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering
1969 and Civil Engineering 1973 from Auburn University. He
began his career with Thomas & Hutton on September 5, l973 and later became
President/CEO until his retirement in December, 2008 – with
35 years of service.

Mr. Stanley was a military veteran who served in the United States
Air Force as a jet pilot and flight instructor.

Mr. Stanley was active in local community and professional organizations
And served on many boards including: the Savannah Chamber of Commerce Council Board, Savannah Sports Council, CEO Council, Wachovia Board of Directors,
Savannah Rotary Club, Savannah Quarterback Club, Co-Chairman of
Legends of Golf, Georgia Society of Professional Engineers, National
Society of Professional Engineers, American Council of Civil Engineers,
Co-Chairman of Georgia Tech Fundraiser, Past Director of South
Carolina Tourism Council, Consulting Engineers Council of Georgia,

Mr. Stanley was an Honorary member of the First Ranger Battalion
Hunter Army Air Field, and an Honorary member of the 75th Ranger
Regiment. He was deeply honored to have been selected as a recipient
of both these awards.

When asked who were the most inspirational people in his life, Danny
was quoted, "my father, Elkins Stanley – a great provider with a fourth-
grade education; my high school football coach, Minton Williams; and
Joseph Hutton, founder of Thomas & Hutton Engineering firm.

Dear Allison, Lavona, and kids, Danny Stanley was one of the toughest people I've ever known. To be an all-state back at 145 pounds is incredible. More incredible than that, was his inspiration to his team mates. Those are days we look back on and appreciate with time. This is a legacy few can claim. I love him and miss him.
